Course Description
The basic idea is to show how to exploit the interaction between electromagnetic waves, from visible band to microwave band, and biological systems for chemical and physical parameters detection and modification. Specific topics could be, but not limited to: Biosensing for medical and environmental monitoring, microwave imaging of tissues and bone, terahertz radiation for medical imaging, healthcare applications.
Key Objectives
This course aims to equip students and young researchers with the knowledge and skills essential for understanding and exploiting advanced sensing and radiating techniques based on the interaction of electromagnetic waves and biological systems. Different sensing and exposure systems’ schemes will be analyzed and hands-on activities, e.g., point-of-care testing devices, will be carried out. Through in-depth analysis of sensing and interacting principles as well as sensing and radiating devices, participants will gain confidence with these advanced methods and their application to biomedical and environmental domains.
Educational Experience
This course aims to provide the participants with an experience that gives an overview of the latest advancements on the topic including practical knowledge of cutting-edge future applications. Participants will acquire valuable insights on how to exploit the power of electromagnetic radiation as a sensing and/or interacting tool when properly combined with biological systems.
Award for the best poster presentation
All participants are invited to bring a poster on their current research topic, for a dedicated session. A Scientific Committee will award the author of the best poster.
Participation fee: € 1200 covering the attendance of all sessions, full board and lodging, a ‘half-day excursion’ and social dinner, shuttle from/to Palermo and Trapani airports.
Application: Interested candidates should send an e-mail to the Directors of the Course at the e-mail address school2026@eisbem.eu, including:
- A short Curriculum Vitae
- Scientific interest of the candidate
- Students: a letter of recommendation of a Senior Scientist
In case of acceptance the candidate will be informed by e-mail.
The deadline for sending the requests of participation to the School is December 31st 2025
